Tier 1

These are the best, most popular names thus far.  These names poll very well on social media and with various media outlets.  We will list four names per tier and comment on each entry.  These names and the chances of becoming the new selection for the Washington Football Team will be analyzed today.

Redwolves / Red Wolves – This is the most popular option of all by a wide margin and has received support from several former players.  The team is reportedly considering this name, but the level of interest is not known.  The league expects “one-named” teams and Redwolves would be preferred over Red Wolves.

Wolves This could be a better option if the team is looking to wholly divorce itself from any references to the recent name.  Wolves is almost as popular as Redwolves and could have better support overall.

Commanders – This name has received some traction and is somewhat popular.  It would incorporate a military theme, but is it a name that will be able to stand the test of time?  The military is seen as a positive, but it is unknown if there would be similar support for making it part of the future Washington Football Team.

Unknown name Is there a name that no one is expecting?  It’s not out of the question to think that a name no one is thinking of will be the choice.  The risk in such a strategy is that it could backfire or it could produce a name that is universally accepted.

Current ranking in our estimation:

  • 1.  Wolves
  • 2.  Redwolves / Red Wolves
  • 3.  Commanders
  • 4.  Unknown

The first name on this list offers an alliterative style and it appears to be widely acceptable to everyone.  Redwolves is certainly the most popular, but “Wolves” would probably be a better overall choice.
