Washington Football Team’s most valuable assets for the 2021 season
Ron Rivera
Riverboat Ron, in my opinion, is the key piece to this entire culture-changing process.
Without a doubt, there is a different environment in the Washington Football Team facilities and a large part of it is due to owner Dan Snyder giving Ron Rivera “the keys”, per se, in executive decisions such as the hiring of Jason Wright, which I’ll get to in a second.
Last season was the beginning of what Ron Rivera brings to the table in terms of his leadership, his father-like abilities, as well as his morals. During the duration of last season, Ron was going through a tough battle with squamous cell carcinoma that developed in his lymph nodes.
At the same time, a worldwide pandemic was occurring. Rivera had all the reason to sit out to not lead this team, but he still went in and received treatments during halftime, and helped the Washington Football Team win the NFC East title. In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Terry McLaurin had this to say about Ron, as well as Alex Smith:
"“Just the way they approached practice, you would have never known anything was wrong, by the way. They never had a feel sorry for me moment. They never really had moments where they were going to use what they were going through as an excuse. They were always going to put their best foot forward.”"
By providing an example to follow, Rivera has become immeasurably valuable to the Washington Football Team.
