Washington Football Team: Post-minicamp 53-man roster prediction
Safety
Rostered: (5) Landon Collins, Kamren Curl, Jeremy Reaves, Deshazor Everett, Darrick Forrest
Washington only kept four at the safety position entering Week 1 of 2020. A season-ending injury to Landon Collins and poor play by Troy Apke brought about more playing time for Deshazor Everett, Kamren Curl, and Jeremy Reaves.
Everett, Curl, and Reaves helped solidify their standing with exceptional play after receiving the increase in field time. This should lock them into the final roster for 2021, in addition to finally ending the Troy Apke era in D.C.
Collins will be kept on the final roster, but likely because of the cap hit the team would take if he was cut. It may be possible that Collins could be used in a role that would allow him to be a hybrid type of player. Of course he must also prove he is ready to handle the workload since he is returning from a torn Achilles.
Finally, Darrick Forrest locks down a spot in because of special teams ability and draft position. In reality, if there was a sixth linebacker worthy of a position, Forrest would be competing with that player. It’s just all a part of determining the final few roster spots in any given year.
