Round 3: Dyami Brown, Wide Receiver, North Carolina

How did one of the best receivers in the 2021 draft fall to the Washington Football Team in the third round with the 82nd overall draft choice?

Dyami Brown, rated as an early second-round prospect by most analysts, dropped to the second half of Round 3.  Washington was able to secure the services of the talented Tar Heel and didn’t need to trade forward or offer a player in any hypothetical deal.  It was stunning to see the front office with such a gift being delivered to them at the Team Park front door.

After the initial shock of selecting Brown, fans began to realize the magnitude of Washington’s great fortune.  The ultra-talented Brown will help transform a unit that had just one viable option for 2020.  Washington’s wide receiver corps is now one of the best in the NFL for 2021.

More from Commanders Draft News

Fans should be able to watch Brown making spectacular catches and using his blazing speed to create a culture that hasn’t been seen in three decades.  That is the last time a Washington Football Team receiving corps had such talent on display.

Brown should be able to contend for a lot of playing time in 2021 and Washington’s third-round magic looks as if it is set to continue.  Seattle mega-star D.K. Metcalf somehow lasted until the second round in 2019 and look at what he has accomplished in his first two years.

Brown’s surprising fall a round further in 2021 feels eerily similar to what Metcalf experienced two years ago.  Washington wide receiver Terry McLaurin was also chosen in the third round of the 2019 draft and fans are hoping that lightning can strike twice this year.

Verdict:  You can call it luck, patience, or a calculated risk, but Washington arguably scored one of the biggest steals of the first three rounds.  Brown should be able to pay huge dividends for many years to come.
