2021 3-round NFL mock draft: Washington Football Team adds a QB
By Ian Cummings
25. Jacksonville Jaguars: UCF S Richie Grant
I’m not usually a fan of picking 24-year old defensive backs in Round 1. The Raiders are paying the price for selecting Damon Arnette far too high in 2020. Having said that, I had reservations about Arnette’s play and maximum potential. I have less reservations about Grant.
Make no mistake; this is too high for Grant in my opinion, and it’s much higher than many have been mocking him. However, the Jaguars need a lot of help at safety, and Grant presents the requisite high-floor, high-ceiling mix that they’d be looking for early on. They could try and wait until No. 33 to pick him, but since no safeties have been picked yet, they can’t guarantee he’ll make it there.
He’s comparable to Moehrig on day one, and he’s a little bit better in single-high coverage on day one. Sometimes, little things like that can make the difference.
