Stud: S Kam Curl

The loss of Landon Collins was supposed to be a blow to the Washington defense, but Kam Curl has stepped up and turned into a quality player at safety. Against the Eagles, he was once again a strong performer and he had a key play for Washington to set them up for a score.

In the first quarter, Curl was able to notch an interception of Hurts that set up a field goal from Dustin Hopkins that gave Washington an early 10-point lead.

On the play, Curl was in coverage against tight end Zach Ertz. He jammed him hard at the line of scrimmage, was physical with the veteran tight end, and ultimately prevented him from getting to the spot Hurts threw the ball without committing pass interference. Essentially, he beat Ertz to the spot and got the pick.

The interception marked the third of Curl’s career and the third in his last four games. He has certainly been a well-rounded playmaker this season for Washington, and he did have a key tackle in run support in the game as well. His best achievement was essentially giving Washington three free points, but his three tackles were important as well.

Curl continues to be a gem for Washington and it will be fun to watch him grow. It will be interesting to see what the team plans to do with him and Collins next year, but one thing is certain: Curl deserves to be a starter for the team after his excellent rookie season.
