Washington Football Team Reality Checks – Week 15 vs. Seahawks
By Tim Payne
2. The Reality Is, Scott Turner has to stick to the run.
Speaking of the offensive line, this game needs to be more about the running game than any of Washington’s recent games, now that Haskins is playing. Scott Turner needs to dig deep into his bag of runs, to maximize the strength of his offensive line against a Seahawks defense that is vulnerable on the ground.
This is also the best way to ensure the defense is fresh as they battle the high-powered Seahawks offense. Seattle gave up 190 rushing yards to the Colt McCoy-quarterbacked Giants two weeks ago. If Washington can’t move the ball on the ground, it could be a very long day at FedEx Field.
Turner should mix in a good amount of fly sweeps, tosses, and stretch plays to force Seattle to react horizontally, hoping to then create some vertical openings for Haskins to hit receivers for big plays.
My Prediction: Turner will take my advice and seek to move the ball on the ground creatively. Not enough production will ensue to make us happy as Washington Football Team fans, but that will largely be due to the lack of a dynamic runner healthy on this roster. Expect Washington to average 3.9 YPC on about 24 carries.
