Washington Football Team: Five bold predictions vs. Seahawks
3. Dwayne Haskins throws for 300 yards, no TDs, two INTs
This game is going to be the test of Dwayne Haskins‘ growth. He was benched after Week 4 for struggling to move the team downfield effectively, and he was plagued by costly turnovers and bouts with high throws.
Now, he is making his return as a starter nearly three months later. Washington is in the middle of a playoff race, and they need him to do everything he can to at least help the team stay close to the Seahawks and put Washington in position to win.
After what we saw from him last week in relief of Alex Smith, fans and analysts alike don’t have a lot of confidence that he will do that. However, if Haskins can put up some solid numbers, then he can quell concerns about Smith’s absence, win or lose.
So far in his career, Haskins has posted just one game with 300+ passing yards. That may change on Sunday. The Seahawks have a good defense, but their secondary has been beatable this year. Haskins has a live arm and if the team allows him to unleash his downfield ability, he could help the team rip off some big gains. We’ll assume that will be the good of Haskins’ day, 300+ passing yards.
However, there will be some bad mixed in. Haskins has had issues with turnovers at times during his career and has two, three-interception games in his career. The Seahawks are an opportunistic defense, so they may force Haskins into some mistakes, especially if they can get pressure on him.
All told, Haskins will finish the day with the second 300+ passing yard day while also finishing with the third, two-interception day of his career as well. He’ll help the team move the ball, but scoring may be an issue for Washington.
