No. 1

Positive No. 1

Let’s be honest.  You knew it before this moment.  Yes, the first positive is the star of the game.  Chase Young enjoyed his best game thus far as a Washington Football Team player.  It was an absolute masterpiece and fans will be talking about it all week.

Is this the game that clinches rookie Defensive Rookie of the Year honors?  It certainly didn’t hurt, but there are three games remaining in the regular season.  Young’s stellar play against the 49ers was the No. 1 key to winning this game and taking command in the NFC East.  Take a look at these stats from Young on Sunday.

  • 6 tackles
  • 1 tackle for lost yardage
  • 1 sack
  • 2 quarterback hits
  • 2 pass deflections
  • 1 forced fumble
  • 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown (47 yards)

Chase Young was a one-man wrecking crew against the 49ers and he is easily our first positive of the week.

Negative No. 1

Nick Sundberg has been one of the best long snappers in the NFL for many years, but he didn’t enjoy his usual solid outing on Sunday.  Sundberg snapped to Tress Way on a field goal attempt in the first quarter and Dustin Hopkins missed wide right on the 53-yard attempt.  The snap was very poor and it contributed to the miss.

Eight plays later, the 49ers used the good field position to their advantage and scored a touchdown.  Sundberg had trouble on another field goal attempt late in the second quarter, but Hopkins nailed the 31-yard kick.  Sundberg cost the team 10 points on Sunday and it could’ve been 13.  In close games, every player needs to perform according to their abilities.  The Washington Football Team ultimately won on Sunday, but Nick Sundberg struggled a bit.  He is our first negative of the week.
