Stud No. 3 – The fabled edge rushing duo

They. Have. Arrived. Ladies and gentlemen, your fabled edge rushing duo of Chase Young and Montez Sweat has arrived.

Let’s not kid ourselves, of course. Young and Sweat have both been tremendous this year, and their impact has been felt week-in and week-out, even beyond the sack numbers. But in Week 12, that solidity translated to production that could be seen both on the stat sheet and on the television. Both players tore up the Cowboys’ game plan in different ways.

Young remained a menace on the edge, both as a pass rusher and a run defender. He bullied the Cowboy’s overmatched offensive line en route to a sack, and his presence alone exerted a great deal of pressure on Kellen Moore’s offensive unit.

Sweat, meanwhile, made his primary impact in a different way. While Sweat was also a formidable threat to the Cowboys as a pass rusher, his best play came at the very end of the game. With Dallas panicking after falling down 34-16, Andy Dalton fired off a quick pass at the line of scrimmage. Sweat stepped in front of it, leapt up to deflect it with his long arms, and then picked it off, taking it for an easy score.

With Young’s relentlessness and explosiveness, and with Sweat’s length and disruption, Washington has one of the best young edge duos in the league. And in Week 12, they proved it, making plays four quarters in.
