Washington Football Team Dud: Joe Burrow’s injury

Joe Burrow suffered a brutal-looking leg injury in the second half of Washington’s win over the Bengals and had to be carted off the field. He was later diagnosed with a torn ACL and he will miss the rest of the season.

Washington showed great sportsmanship during this time. They took a knee for the rookie quarterback and a few of Burrow’s former teammates at Ohio State — Dwayne Haskins, Terry McLaurin, and Chase Young — went out to the cart to offer words of support to Burrow.

The whole moment was difficult and it cast a pall on the game, in more ways than one.

More from Riggo's Rag

First of all, nobody likes to see a player get injured, especially a young player in the midst of one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history. While Burrow’s performance hasn’t translated to many wins, the Bengals offense has been solid with him at its helm just a year after struggling mightily to one of the worst records in the NFL.

Clearly, he was a game-changer. But now, he’ll have to wait until next year to make an impact for Cincinnati.

Beyond that, it needs to be noted that when Burrow was in the game, Washington was actually facing some competition. They had done well to limit the Bengals to just nine points but once Burrow left and the lead was 14-9, it was over for the Bengals. Ryan Finley couldn’t move the ball at all and Washington just demolished him throughout the rest of the game.

While Washington’s effort against Finley was excellent, it would’ve been nice to see them finish this game and win with Burrow still leading the Bengals’ offense. That would’ve felt like a better win than this one. As nice as it was to see Washington win, it just didn’t pack the same punch as it would have if Burrow had been able to finish the game.
