Washington Football Team Stud: Troy Apke and Chase Young’s big play

This play was a crazy one for Washington. At first, it looked like Joe Burrow was going to be able to run in for a score, but several things happened to create one of the biggest plays of day for Washington.

With Burrow scrambling toward the right pylon, it looked like he had the room needed to simply run in for a score. Then, from the left side of the field, Troy Apke came flying in toward the pylon and Burrow had to rethink his path.

Burrow cut inside and instead was met with a massive hit by Chase Young that forced a fumble that was recovered by Washington in the end-zone. The hit rocked Burrow but was completely clean. Young also purposefully punched at the ball to jar it loose. Not only was it a physical play, it was a smart one, too.

Here’s a look at the play via Washington’s official Twitter account.

You can almost feel the hit from Young. That’s just how good it was.

The play represented one of the best of the day for Washington and it was a good job of Apke and Young using their traits to make this happen. Young, he showed off his athleticism, football IQ, and sheer size and strength by doing everything he did.

But don’t sleep on Apke’s role in that play either. Apke is noted for his athletic ability, and he was about the only player on the field that could’ve come screaming in to make Burrow cut back like that. The fact that he got there and took the proper angle to force the cutback is a good sign that he may be improving a bit.

No matter how you look at it, this was a big play. It’s one that will stand out from this win as the game goes along.
