Washington Football Team: Potential trade suitors for QB Dwayne Haskins
Honorable Mentions
These are teams that could hypothetically have an interest in Haskins but wouldn’t necessarily go after him for a variety of reasons.
Las Vegas Raiders. Jon Gruden has been a collector of quarterbacks since returning to the coaching ranks with the Raiders. He has stockpiled backups behind Derek Carr like Marcus Mariota, Nathan Peterman, and DeShone Kizer, and he always in interested in adding more talent at the quarterback position.
While Gruden’s tendency to buy low on QBs could make him interested in Haskins, the Raiders already have Carr, Mariota, and Peterman on their depth chart and currently, Carr is playing very well. So, the team has little room for Haskins and little need for him with Derek Carr signed long-term.
Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid has been excellent at developing quarterbacks during his career and there is a third-string opening on the Chiefs behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne. So, Haskins could fit into that spot.
However, while buying low on Haskins could be a frugal move, the Chiefs have little use for him except as a potential future trade chip. Mahomes is the NFL’s best quarterback and is on a $500 million deal for the next decade. Reid and the Chiefs are probably better off spending their resources elsewhere and drafting a developmental passer behind Mahomes at some point in the coming years.
Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys need a quarterback after losing Dak Prescott (ankle) and Andy Dalton (head). Could they target a guy like Haskins as Prescott is set to hit free agency?
No. Washington and Dallas aren’t going to make a trade. Plain and simple, interdivisional trades are hard enough as it is. If it involves a former first-round quarterback, it’s a non-starter.
