Stud No. 5 – TE Logan Thomas

Are we truly witnessing Logan Thomas blossoming into a legitimate NFL tight end?

After a stretch through Weeks 4 and 5 that saw Thomas log just two catches for 12 yards, Thomas has suddenly taken his performance up a notch. Last week against the Giants, Thomas earned 42 yards and a touchdown on three catches, showing increased toughness and ball tracking ability, and against the Cowboys, he had the best game of his career as a tight end.

Thomas logged four catches, 60 yards, and another touchdown in Week 7. The 60-yard figure far surpassed his career-best yardage output, and just seven weeks into the season, he’s already logged yearly career-bests in receptions, total yards, and touchdowns. He’s up to 21 catches for 208 yards and three scores, but even beyond the statistics, his play has shown visible improvement.

Where Thomas was unnatural and passive earlier in the season, he’s now attacking the ball more and showing more proactivity at the catch point. A couple of his receptions against Dallas were physical contested catches, and on his touchdown reception, he withstood early contact and used his athleticism to stay in bounds and run into the end zone.

Thomas is slowly but surely becoming a more reliable target, and it’s exciting to think about where he might be by year’s end. If Thomas can keep trending toward becoming a legitimate starting tight end, it would have a big impact on Washington’s offense down the stretch.
