Defensive Game Balls

LB Cole Holcomb

Cole Holcomb operated like a tremendous machine on Sunday and he was the best defensive player on the field against Dallas.  One play that epitomized his tenacity on Sunday occurred in the first half when he sacked Dallas quarterback Andy Dalton.  Holcomb blasted through the block of running back Ezekiel Elliott and leveled him on his way to registering the sack.

Holcomb added five tackles, one deflected pass, and an interception late in the first half deep in WFT territory.  He was definitely the defensive MVP and for his efforts on Sunday, Cole Holcomb is awarded the first defensive game ball.

More from Commanders News

S Landon Collins

Landon Collins is a player that we have been ridiculing for the last five weeks.  He left the game late in the second quarter after suffering an Achilles injury that will knock him out for the rest of this season.  Just to be sure here, this is not a sympathy award, but one that is truly deserved.  Early in the first quarter, Collins was able to get a strip-sack and the play resulted in a safety.  It set the tone for a game that was destined to be a blowout.

He finished the day with four tackles and for his efforts on Sunday, Landon Collins is awarded the second defensive game ball for this week.  We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

EDGE Montez Sweat

Montez Sweat has been deserving of game balls throughout the season thus far, but the losses prevented the awards from occurring.  Sweat had two sacks on Sunday and contributed three total tackles before leaving the game in the second half with a concussion.  He should return immediately after the bye week.

Sweat is on pace for 11 sacks this season and he has been a relentless force on the WFT defensive line this season.  For his efforts and sheer determination on Sunday, Montez Sweat earns our third defensive game ball.

CB Ronald Darby

Ronald Darby struggled earlier in the season, but he improved bit by bit each week.  Sunday was one of his best days of the season.  Darby contributed five tackles against the Cowboys and made several key stops in the defensive backfield and on the edge.  Darby also had one pass deflection.

The former Eagle is now starting to make a firm statement each week and the WFT should think seriously about signing him to a long-term deal.  For his efforts on Sunday, Ronald Darby is awarded the fourth defensive game ball.
