Washington Football Team: Five positives and negatives vs. Giants
Positive 1
Kyle Allen is never going to be mistaken for an elite quarterback, but he is not the second coming of John Beck or Danny Wuerffel. He made some bad mistakes on Sunday, but there are plenty of positives to talk about.
Allen was 31-42 for 280 yards on Sunday, but it is hard to ignore two of his turnovers that led to 14 points for the Giants. However, that is something to build on and Allen did have the team moving downfield regularly throughout the game.
And just check out this interesting stat from NBC Sports Boston’s JP Finlay.
If Allen is to remain the starter for the remainder of 2020, he will need to limit turnovers and continue to establish a rapport with the offensive players. It appears as if he is doing just that and if Sunday’s game is any indicator of future games, then this offense has hope.
Negative 1
The special teams play on Sunday was shaky once again. Tress Way had a superb day after a couple of weeks with subpar punting, but today’s focus is on Nick Sundberg and Dustin Hopkins. Hopkins whiffed once again from inside 50 yards halfway through the first quarter, but a bad snap from Sundberg also contributed to the unsuccessful attempt. It cost the team dearly on Sunday.
It will be interesting to see if the front office will bring in some competition for Hopkins during the upcoming bye or sooner. Sundberg has had some issues with bad snaps over the last few seasons and he could be put on notice as well.
