Final Thoughts

Overall, as I said before, Haskins was very Alex Smith-like. J.P. Finlay of NBC Sports Washington pointed out how similar his stat line was to some of Smith’s games in 2018.  Haskins was a game manager. He didn’t do fantastic, but he didn’t do horrible.

Overall, I think Haskins gets a positive grade for this game. Most of his positives won’t come up in the box score. His box score looks rather uninspiring, but his leadership and mental toughness helped Washington complete the comeback.

With that said, Haskins has to be better. For Washington to become a good team and not just a competitive team with its defensive line, it needs Haskins to be a quality quarterback. Haskins made winning plays and took care of the ball. In Week 1, that was enough to win.

However, in the coming weeks, there will be games where the defense won’t be as dominant. In fact, that game may come next week against Arizona. Haskins has to be better. Haskins will need to graduate from game manager, and become the franchise quarterback he was drafted to be.

As last year showed, with every game, Haskins’ play improved. The first half Dwayne Haskins against Philadelphia was completely different than his second half version. He will need to continue the trend of improving with more experience in his first full year as a starter.

Final Grade: B-
