What we learned from Washington Football Team, NFL in Week 1
By Jonathan Eig
Takeaways from across the NFL
1. Browns out of excuses
Ohio is still Ohio. Cincinnati at least has some hope given how Joe Burrow looked in his first game. Cleveland? Sorry, you’re out of excuses. You were not going to beat Baltimore in Week 1, but that was some awfully weak kombucha that Kevin Stefanski was serving up in an embarrassing loss.
2. Toughest drop of Week 1
Wouldn’t want to be D’Andre Swift on Sunday. Dropping a game-winner against a division rival is not the best way to start your NFL career. Swift will probably bounce back from this over time. But Sunday was not pretty.
3. Four QBs stand out
Those young guys – Mahomes and Jackson – they’re pretty good. Those old guys – Wilson and Rodgers – yeah, they’re still pretty good too. One of those four dudes will be lifting the Lombardi Trophy come February.
4. Cowboys underperforming
You who won’t be lifting it? Rayne Dakota Prescott. I’m sorry, but did I miss something? I thought this was the Cowboys’ year. I thought every bench player was a future Hall of Famer. I thought the Cooper/Lamb/Gallup were the greatest power trio to come out of Texas since ZZ Top. I thought … ah, forget it. Washington won. Cowboys lost. Life is good.
5. Early upsets (as always)
Washington over Philly. Jacksonville over Indy. Cards over Niners. Thanks for playing in our Survivor Pool. Better luck next year.
That wraps up our takeaways from Week 1. Next week, Washington takes on Arizona. All they did Sunday was take out the reigning NFC Champs. According to old schoolyard rules, that makes them the current best team in the NFC.
Not worried. Bring on Kyler and D Hop. Bring on Patrick Peterson and Chandler Jones. We’re not scared. Washington’s 1-0 and leading the NFC East. That’s the best takeaway of all.
