Washington Football Team vs. Eagles preview, matchups to watch, score prediction

It’s easy to get wrapped up in offseason hype and in a year without a preseason, it’s especially hard to predict what will happen in Week 1. But in honest, objective terms, I like Washington’s chances of keeping this game close.
Washington’s defensive strengths match up with Philly’s offensive weaknesses. That will give them a chance to control things on that side of the ball.
On offense, things are a bit dicier, but there are holes in the Eagles’ defense that can be exploited. If Haskins can find a way to beat them in these areas, it will make a lot of fans confident in the strides that he evidently made during the offseason.
Of course, coaching will be important too. Doug Pederson is a strong coach, but Ron Rivera is a very good coach too. They’re about even, but I may give a slight edge to Rivera because he is 1) coaching a new team, and 2) his team may want to win for him in wake of his recent cancer diagnosis.
At the end of the day, I think that Washington can win this game. They may not, but so long as they are competitive with the Eagles and do well, fans will be happy. They just need to open the era by giving the fans something to look forward to.
