What might keep the Washington Football Team from competing in 2020?

No. 1 – A general lack of depth
The Washington Football Team made a number of depth-oriented signings in the 2020 offseason, but even after supplementing positions on both sides of the football, their overall depth still leaves much to be desired.
The competitive teams in the NFL, on a yearly basis, have several starting-caliber players at any given position, and the Washington Football Team, as much as it may improve from its disastrous 2019 season, isn’t close to that level of security yet.
Aside from defensive line and edge rusher — admittedly two of the more important positions on the team — Washington is starved for sufficient levels of starting talent. All of the team’s offensive position groups lack proven depth, and on defense, the team’s secondary is also very uncertain.
There’s a chance that a new coaching staff could supplement the team’s development in these areas, but if that depth isn’t already established, it won’t do any good in 2020. Is the Washington Football Team on its way? Perhaps. But from the moment Ron Rivera was hired, we knew this would be a long-term project. The current level of depth speaks to that truth.
