Washington football training camp profiles: Offensive line
By Ian Cummings
Keith Ismael
Experience: 1st season
Draft Status: 2020 fifth-round pick, 156th overall
2019 Stats: N/A
2020 Outlook: Drafted just three picks later than Ross Pierschbacher one year later, Keith Ismael could be tabbed as Pierschbacher’s replacement by the Washington football team. Ismael played both center and guard at San Diego state, and he has an intriguing skill set that equates to both immediate security and long-term upside.
Expected Role: Ismael is only a rookie, and a fifth-round rookie at that, but he offers a good amount of versatility and athleticism, and he’s also the player with the investment factor working in his favor. He should be one of the top interior backups, so long as he comes to training camp ready to go, and depending on his performance there, he could push Pierschbacher out as the top backup at center.
Status: Ismael’s specific role is still up for discussion, but the former Aztec should be a roster lock amidst uncertainty on the offensive line. Players who can play multiple positions are valuable, and Ismael in particular offers long-term utility, given the contract situation of starting center Chase Roullier.
