Cornelius Lucas

Experience: 7th season

Draft Status: Undrafted, 2014

2019 Stats: 16 games, eight starts

2020 Outlook: Once an undrafted free agent, Cornelius Lucas has successfully carved out a long NFL career as a quality backup on the offensive line. In 2019, he logged a career-high figure in starts with eight, replacing Bobby Massie at right tackle. Lucas, who recently turned 29, has an impressive resume as a swing tackle, and at the very least, that’s the value he can provide for the Washington football team.

Expected Role: For now, no tackle spots are set in stone, so Lucas could feasibly compete for either position on the edge of the line. But assuming Moses retains the right tackle job, as he’s done for five years, and assuming Charles gets the first look at left tackle, a position he was drafted to man, Lucas will be the next man up at either position, an important bastion at one of the most crucial offensive positions.

Status: It still remains to be seen whether or not Lucas will kick off the season as a starter, but he should make the roster regardless of how the tackle battles conclude. Lucas has a long track record as a solid backup, and at 6-foot-8, 328, he’s a massive player who can impose himself whenever he has a chance.
