A.J. Terrell. 22. player. 60. . Cornerback. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings need some serious help at cornerback. Right now, the Vikings have Mike Hughes at cornerback. And beyond him, there isn’t much else.

Their three best players at the position — Xavier Rhodes, Mackenzie Alexander, and Trae Waynes — all left in free agency. Rhodes, of course, was cut after a down year, but the team will still miss his presence.

Armed with two first-round picks, the Vikings seem likely to address the corner position with one of them. They simply need a starter that badly and they will have options at this juncture.

In this mock, the Vikings will have a choice between Clemson’s A.J. Terrell, LSU’s Kristian Fulton, and other dark-horse options like TCU’s Jeff Gladney or Utah’s Jaylon Johnson. Though Fulton is the highest of the available corners by my measure, Terrell’s upside may be intriguing to Rick Spielman.

Terrell is 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, and had six interceptions during his three seasons at Clemson. He’s fast and athletic but he’ll need to improve his cover skills at the next level. He had a lot of trouble against Joe Burrow and LSU in the National Championship Game and that exposed some of his biggest issues. But he has rebuilt his value a bit during the pre-draft process and his upside could get him drafted in the first round as a result.

Given Mike Zimmer’s proven ability to develop cornerbacks, he should find a way to get the most out of Terrell. He’ll be the pick now in my mock especially given that he has several other potential landing spots in this range (Raiders, Jaguars, etc.).
