Round 7, Pick 15: CB Javelin Guidry, Utah

Waiting this long to address the cornerback position wouldn’t be ideal for the Redskins. But in this scenario, getting Javelin Guidry is not bad.

Guidry was the second-fastest player at the NFL Combine behind only Henry Ruggs. Guidry clocked a 4.29 time in the 40-yard dash and was impressive in the on-field drills. It looks like the 5-foot-9 player could be a contributor in the slot at the next level and at the very least, he could be a good, fast addition to the special teams unit.

During his three seasons at Utah, Guidry had a pick each year and at least 31 tackles. He would be good competition for Jimmy Moreland if the Redskins don’t pick up a slot option in free agency, and his speed could make an impact on the team’s defense one way or another.

That said, if the Redskins wait until the seventh round to draft a corner, they’ll need to add at least one outside starter in free agency. That could be either Byron Jones, James Bradberry, or a couple of cheaper pieces to help shore up their depth.

This is just one of the many ways the ‘Skins draft could play out. Once free agency plays out, we’ll better know exactly what needs the team will have to attack in the draft. And if they can add a second-round pick, it will become easier for the team to fill all of their biggest needs in the first few rounds.
