Redskins: Five biggest risers from the 2020 NFL Combine
By Ian Cummings
No. 3 – Baylor WR Denzel Mims
Chase Claypool was a close contender for this spot, but due to his positional flexibility, he wasn’t considered as a pure wide receiver. Denzel Mims was, however, and he drastically helped his perpetually rising stock at the Combine.
Mims, a 6-foot-3, 207-pound receiver, left Indianapolis with a 4.38 40-yard dash time, a 38.5-inch vertical, a 131-inch broad jump, and a searing three-cone time of under 6.70 seconds. Mims has been a steady riser all offseason, and his NFL Combine performance should vault him comfortably into the Round 2 conversation. If the Redskins trade back in, they could get a chance to add Mims’ size and athleticism on the outside.
Another player who deserves mentioning is Michigan’s Donovan Peoples-Jones. Peoples-Jones, standing at 6-foot-2, 212, logged absurd explosiveness numbers, with a 44.5-inch vertical and a 139-inch broad jump. He also showcased very good speed, earning a 4.48 in the 40-yard dash.
Peoples-Jones wasn’t always a consistent producer in college, but poor quarterback play and offensive coaching didn’t help. He has the athletic profile to be a better player at the professional level, and with a good, stable supporting cast, he could explode onto the scene, both literally and figuratively.
Honorable Mentions: Notre Dame WR Chase Claypool, Michigan WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
