Step Three – Players To Re-sign

Each offseason brings the challenge of signing pending free agents while knowing that some of the players could depart via free agency.

The list of players that should be re-signed (preferably before free agency arrives in March) is somewhat small this year and that could afford the front office to focus more intently on keeping these players in a Redskins uniform. However, losing players the team prefers to keep does happen on occasion and the staff must deal with it accordingly.

These are the players that should be re-signed in the coming weeks:  Brandon Scherff, Ereck Flowers, Jon Bostic, and Caleb Brantley.

Scherff should be a priority and if he can’t be re-signed by the time free agency opens, then a franchise tag should be applied.

Flowers had a breakout season at left guard and the team should sign him to a minimum of three years. His solid play and durability is a huge asset going forward.

Bostic was originally signed to be a one year stopgap at inside linebacker, but he performed above any expectations and a new two-year contract seems like a good reward.

Brantley will be a restricted free agent and the team should tender him prior to the March 10 deadline – the final day such offers can be made.
