Five reasons Ron Rivera should choose the Redskins

No. 3 – Many pieces are set on the Redskins offense
Ron Rivera is a defensive coach, so he may look to delegate offensive duties to other coaches, and he might not have as much hands-on experience retooling an offense, as opposed to a defense. Luckily for Rivera, and for the Redskins, many of the pieces on offense are already in place.
Some coaches like to institute clean slates in spite of the pieces that may be present, but Rivera may find in his acclimation with the team that the Redskins current offensive structure has substantial upside as is.
Young quarterback Dwayne Haskins showed immense growth as his season went on, and he’ll come back with an offensive talent cast that includes gifted athletes like Terry McLaurin, Derrius Guice, and Steven Sims jr. The offensive line has more room for improvement, but bringing back Brandon Scherff and Trent Williams could go a long way toward solidifying the foundation.
To top it all off, Kevin O’Connell showed promise as the team’s offensive coordinator as the weeks went on, and in a structure where he has the final say on offense, he could thrive. In 2019, his influence was diluted by Bill Callahan, and Rivera can ensure that that isn’t the case in 2020.
O’Connell has been heralded as an up-and-coming coach, the kind of coach a person like Rivera might search for in a transition. O’Connell has a good relationship with Haskins, something Rivera wouldn’t have to break up, and something that can benefit Rivera as he familiarizes himself with the new environment.
