Redskins full NFL first-round mock: Is Chase Young the one?
By Ian Cummings
At times, it’s seemed like the Dallas Cowboys can afford to pay anybody and everybody. Earlier this year, they hit Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper with contract extensions, locking down the core of their offensive attack for years to come.
On the surface, it’s a positive development. But ultimately, someone’s gonna have to take one for the team and hit the free agent market, due to the mass amount of funds invested in the offense. That someone will likely be Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones, who’s due for a new contract, and is sure to start a bidding war on the open market.
With Jones all but out the door in 2020, the Cowboys need to find his replacement, and a new running mate for ascending cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. Paulson Adebo gives Dallas a nice option with a lot of upside at pick No. 21.
Adebo hasn’t been as productive in 2019 as he was in his breakout 2018 season, but at 6-foot-1, 192, he provides an enticing combination of athleticism and length, and he knows how to use his length to disrupt the passing game. Consistency can be further attained by Adebo, and he could also stand to fill out his frame a bit at the next level, but he’s a compelling candidate to take the reigns at cornerback in Dallas.
