Grading the performance of the Redskins quarterbacks through nine weeks
Overall Positional Grade
At this point in the season, it’s not possible to give the Redskins a failing grade at quarterback. They have had some decent performances, so that will keep them afloat. Just barely.
The reluctance to go to Haskins is one thing, as it could be argued that he is best served learning for most of his rookie season. But the lack of a plan and constant shuffling between Keenum, Haskins, and McCoy as the starters and backups has been a nightmare. The management there hasn’t been good at all, and it has led to constant confusion about the roles of each player.
The thing that keeps this grade from failing is the hope that Haskins can produce more in the second half of the season. He avoided turnovers against Buffalo, so that was a sign of growth.
And also, Keenum’s two good halves against the Eagles and the Vikings are enough to keep this from crashing and burning. While he’s not the long-term answer in Washington, he definitely has had some good outings. They have just been fleeting.
Still, this unit has been mostly mediocre to below-average this season. And they’ll receive a grade that reflects that.
