Goal No. 1 – Compete against Kirk Cousins and the Vikings

There are two steps to conveying oneself as a competent NFL franchise (We’ll ignore the fact that the Redskins are not a competent franchise for now). Step one? Avoid embarrassment. Step two is to compound on that competence, and truly compete on the football field.

At first glance, the Redskins and Vikings appear to be two teams headed in opposite directions. And that first glance might not be inaccurate. The Vikings, now 5-2, are on a three-game winning streak, in which they’ve averaged 36 points per game. The Redskins, meanwhile, sit at 1-6, and were just shut out at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Their offense has been held to single digits three times over the last four weeks, and against Miami, they strained to score 17.

For the Redskins, winning this one simply isn’t a realistic goal, just as it wasn’t against the 49ers, the Patriots, or even the Giants. But the Redskins can at least use the dome conditions to their advantage, and compete against the Minnesota Vikings. If they can put up a respectable effort, then they can avoid eroding morale further, as they head into a mini-bye week.
