Zach Brown was released by the Redskins. Reuben Foster could be facing a suspension. If Foster is suspended, the team will be lacking depth at the linebacker position. So, adding a veteran like Josh Bynes could help to remedy that.

Bynes has developed into a solid linebacker over the course of the past few years, and he’s coming off one of his most productive seasons with the Cardinals. He notched 75 tackles, two sacks, and five pass defenses in 11 games (all starts). He was a well-rounded, rock-solid player who could be a starter in the team’s 3-4 defense.

If Foster is suspended, the Redskins will be thin at linebacker. They’ll have Shaun Dion Hamilton, who was a capable starter last year, and Mason Foster, who has a lot of starting experience, but the depth will be non-existent. Josh Harvey-Clemons will take over for Foster on passing downs but aside from those three, they would be seriously in trouble given their lack of depth there.

Bynes could come in and battle for the starting job next to Reuben Foster. He would compete with Hamilton and the winner would start. However, if Foster was suspended, Bynes would be able to step in as a three-down starter next to Hamilton. The other Foster and Harvey-Clemons could then play their roles as run stuffer and coverage linebacker in a rotation that would work out better.

Bynes isn’t someone the ‘Skins need to add, but he could allow everything to slide into place a bit better in the linebacker corps. If they end targeting veteran linebacker help, Bynes would be the best buy-low option they could find.
