42. . Defensive End. Ohio State. Nick Bosa. 2. player

The Cardinals selection of Kyler Murray is a big win for the San Francisco 49ers. Since they’re not in play for a quarterback with Jimmy Garroppolo returning in 2019, the No. 2 pick is essentially a No. 1 pick for them; they have their choice of a plethora of top talents in the NFL Draft.

Of course, of all the top talents, there are a select few that rise above even the highest tier. Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams first come to mind as this NFL Draft’s bonafide stars, although Brian Burns is right behind them, and players like Devin White, Ed Oliver, Byron Murphy, and T.J. Hockenson are in the mix as well.

For a different team, the decision could be made tough with a few more surefire needs. But the 49ers checked some boxes off in free agency, and now the consensus is that they’ll find an edge rusher to pair with Dee Ford in the NFL Draft. At this pick, both Nick Bosa and Brian Burns should garner consideration, but Bosa ultimately goes to the bay area.

Bosa rivals his brother as one of the most refined edge rusher prospects to enter the NFL Draft in recent years. While he’s a bit smaller than his elder sibling, Nick Bosa isn’t any less twitchy or energetic, and he has the combination of hand precision, high rushing I.Q., and functional strength to be a consistent winner opposite Ford and DeForest Buckner for the 49ers, and a top sack getter for years on end.
