The Bengals offense is going to have a new look under first-time head coach Zac Taylor. It will be interesting to see what the team plans on doing at quarterback, but no matter what they do, they will be looking to add talent to the offense early and often in the draft.

With this selection, the Bengals can go in one of two directions. They could take one of the top offensive linemen on the board, with Florida’s Jawaan Taylor standing out as the top candidate. Or, they could add a playmaker for their offense. I think they’ll go the latter route, and T.J. Hockenson makes sense.

The Bengals’ top three tight ends are all set to hit free agency this offseason. Of the group, Tyler Eifert is the best, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy. The Bengals would be best served to add another quality playmaker to their group that features the always-great A.J. Green and the emerging Tyler Boyd.

Hockenson was a great weapon for Iowa. He’s an all-around threat at the position and while he may not be as athletic as his teammate Noah Fant, Hockenson is an excellent blocker and will catch almost everything thrown to him. He has a bit of Gronk in him, and that will likely prompt him to come off the board in the top-20 picks.

Hockenson would benefit immensely from playing with Green and if the team keeps route-running red-zone threat, John Ross, their red-zone offense could end up being very good. He’s just too good a fit at a position of need to pass up at this juncture.
