5. Jeremy Sprinkle notches another touchdown

Jordan Reed is going to be out with a foot injury. Meanwhile, Vernon Davis is dealing with a concussion. That could leave a new man to start at tight end for the Redskins.

Jeremy Sprinkle, a second-year man out of Arkansas, will get a chance to prove himself as a starter. He has served mostly as a blocking tight end this year, and in that role, he has performed well. However, he still has to prove himself as a pass-catcher, and he may do that in the next couple of weeks.

Last week, Sprinkle caught the game-winning TD for the Redskins against the Jaguars. He caught three passes for 19 yards and the score in the contest. Those were his first three catches of the season, and it really was his first test as a pass catcher (he had only two targets in the previous 13 games combined). Now, he will get another one.

Sprinkle might have some trouble getting going against the Titans. The Titans have allowed zero touchdowns to the TE position this year and under 600 yards. That said, Sprinkle should play a majority of the snaps, which will give him an opportunity for targets. And at some point, the Titans have to give up a score to the position, right?

If Sprinkle can score in two straight games, that might create an opportunity for him to earn the starting role heading into next season, or at least the top backup role. His receiving ability will be something to watch, and it would be impressive if he could become the first tight end to score on the tight ends this season.
