Redskins vs. Jaguars: 5 Keys to Victory in Week 15
By Kyle Hundley
No. 2 – Redskins must find a way to get some chunk plays
As deficient as the Jaguars’ offense is, they still have a solid defense with Pro Bowl talent at all three levels. With this much talent on the defensive side, it is going to be tough for Johnson to move the ball consistently and lead some long scoring drives down the field. Because of this, Gruden is going to need to find some ways to get yards in chunks and try to put the offense in a position to get some easy points.
The one person on the roster who can help with getting chunk plays, and is still healthy, is Vernon Davis. He is their most explosive player remaining, and has the big play ability needed to help Josh Johnson.
Both Myles Jack and Telvin Smith are fast linebackers and can run with most tight ends, so this is a matchup that the Redskins have to find a way to win. Chris Thompson is another playmaker who can help Johnson. After missing time with a rib injury, Thompson has played the last couple of games, though he hasn’t been nearly as effective as he was early in the season.
Gruden must find a way to get Thompson in space as this is where he is most effective. If Washington can get some of the explosive plays that this offense has been lacking, they will be in excellent shape to win this game.
