Scenario No. 3

Perhaps this is the most likely scenario, in the sense that it lacks total clarity, similar to the Redskins’ past few seasons.

In this scenario, perhaps the Redskins find a way to win three of five games, but still fail to make the playoffs. Perhaps the injuries continue to pile up, and the season, in hindsight, is merely another 9-7 campaign with an asterisk.

What happens then?

Then, it’s Dan Snyder’s choice. Does Jay Gruden get another year to prove himself, in hopes that he’ll finally get a healthy roster? In hopes that he’ll finally get a perfect match of players for his stringent scheme? In hopes that so much experience and adversity will mold him into a winner?

Or will he push the reset button, and give another coach a chance to be the solution, rather than simply withstand the flames? The future of 2018 is obscure for the Redskins, and their long-term future might be even cloudier.
