1. The offensive line…and Geron Christian

I thought long and hard about listing Adrian Peterson as a dud, and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. He had one of his worst games as a Redskin, but it wasn’t entirely his fault.

Despite a favorable matchup, the team couldn’t block for him, and that’s why Peterson was only able to run for 17 yards on nine attempts. Of course, there is a reason for this as well. Pretty much the entire offensive line was hurt in this contest.

Trent Williams was already out after having thumb surgery. Both Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff left the game and didn’t return, leaving a couple of massive holes at the guard position. Right tackle Morgan Moses had to leave the game at times as well after getting banged up. That made playing raw rookie Geron Christian at left tackle necessary, and that was a big problem for the squad.

Christian just didn’t look ready for the limelight, and that was a major problem for the ‘Skins. Of course, he is their fourth tackle and they weren’t anticipating having to play him much this season, but still, the fact is that he didn’t play well. And that contributed to the line’s inability to block and thus, the running game couldn’t get going.

Hopefully, the offensive line will get healthier before Week 10. But this past week, it was a major weakness for the squad and really cost them an opportunity to move the ball on offense.
