Edge Rush

The edge rush depth is a bit weaker than it was last season. Pernell McPhee and Ryan Anderson don’t inspire a lot of hope as pass rushers, though McPhee is a very good run defender. If the Redskins want to add a player with more pass rushing ability, they have limited options but a few guys who could intrigue.

John Simon, Colts: Simon hasn’t been great as a starter, but in a rotational role, he can be solid. He has totaled 11.5 sacks in the past three seasons. Simon could be worth an add to help provide depth with Ryan Anderson and Pernell McPhee. He doesn’t have a lot of upside, but perhaps Greg Manusky could unlock some extra potential.

Nate Orchard, Browns: Orchard only has two sacks in his career, but he has a solid frame. As a speculative add, he could at least push Anderson for playing time.

Vince Biegel, Packers: Biegel didn’t get much of a chance to stick around with the Packers, but he was a fourth-round pick. He could also challenge Anderson so he could garner some consideration. Still, he and Orchard seem unlikely to join the team.
