3. WR Brian Quick

There has been a lot of talk about whether or not Quick or Cam Sims will get cut. Trey Quinn should also be included in the battle for two roster spots, and it’s unclear which two the Redskins favor the most. That said, it seems likely that if the team was making a decision based off what has happened so far this preseason, Quick would be cut.

Quick has flashed at times in camp, but he hasn’t been on the field much since suffering an injury. Quick barely played last year and it’s really unclear as to why that happened. While he does provide veteran depth and the team did elect to re-sign him this offseason, it still makes little sense that they brought him back.

So far this preseason, Quick has been outplayed by Sims. Quinn hasn’t necessarily done a lot to move the needle, but given that he’s done well as a backup punt returner he may make the roster as the No. 6 receiver thanks to his versatility. That will leave Sims and Quick to compete for the final spot.

While this may not be an easy choice, the fact is that Sims has more upside. And with Maurice Harris ready to lock down the top backup role, it may be wise to go with the 6-foot-5 playmaker to develop and use as a red zone threat. Quick can offer something as a backup, but again, I point to the fact that he could barely see the field last year as a red flag. The Redskins were thin at receiver then, but for some reason, Gruden and company didn’t trust him.

Quick may make the team. Or he may not. It all comes down to him Quinn and Sims are able to play. They seem to be en route to pushing him off the roster, so Quick is one of our top potential cuts for the moment.
