Re-evaluating the Redskins RB depth chart after Derrius Guice’s injury
Missing the cut
As I mentioned earlier, I was very torn on whether or not to include Bibbs on the active roster. Given his solid receiving ability, he could get the nod as the No. 4 back on the roster who could step up and serve as a combination player as needed.
However, that would require beating out either Kelley (a Gruden favorite) or Perine (arguably the most talented RB on the roster with Guice out). It seems like that is going to be a very tough task, and unless Kelley can’t generate any yardage or Perine commits a couple of fumbles, Bibbs is probably an odd man out here.
Martez Carter also misses out on the roster in this running back analysis. Carter has a lot of potential, but he hasn’t shined a lot in camp. He’s dealing with a hamstring injury that held him out of the first preseason game as well, so that could end up being a problem for him as well. If he can’t get on the field, he won’t get a chance to prove himself.
Carter seems to be fighting for a practice squad spot right now. He could earn one, especially given the team’s depleted running back room after the injury to Guice. Perhaps this will change if Carter gets back on the field and flashes the dynamic playmaking ability he had in college.
