5. Robert Davis records 50 receiving yards in team debut

This week, the Redskins are likely going to get a first look at their rookie receiver Robert Davis. They made the move to call him up from the practice squad midway through the week because of Maurice Harris’ concussion. With Harris confirmed out, Davis will serve as the fifth receiver on Sunday, but he could have a chance to catch some passes.

While Davis likely won’t play a large number of snaps, the Redskins may want to see what he’s capable of doing. After all, they are lacking strong options at the receiver position and Davis’ speed gives him upside. If he can prove to be a quality route runner, he could have a future with the team.

If Jay Gruden is really looking to see what he has on his team, especially considering that the team will almost certainly not be making it to the postseason. Early in the game, it could behoove Gruden to give Davis some snaps on offense and possibly design a play that is intended to get the ball to him. That would give the rookie a chance to make an early play.

Of course, a lot of the value that Davis is going to provide will come on special teams. Thanks to his blazing speed and solid size, he could have a chance to succeed as a gunner on punt coverage units. If he gets action there, he could build up some confidence as the day goes along.

Overall, it’s hard to actually predict what type of action Davis will see in his NFL debut, but we’re optimistic that he will find some success. Expect him to put up 50 receiving yards on Sunday to earn a role in the team’s receiving corps to close the season.
