There’s no guarantee Felton Davis goes to the NFL Draft this year. But if he does, he’ll have quite a few suitors.

Standing at 6-foot-4, Felton Davis has the height and length to make catches that not many others can. He’s a little thin, weighing out at less than 200 pounds, but plenty of receivers with the same build have made it in the NFL. He’ll have to bulk up a bit, but his playmaking ability is impossible to ignore.

After catching just 12 receptions in 12 games last year, Davis is having a breakout for the ages. It took a little while for the Spartans’ passing game to get going, but now that it has, behind the arm of sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke, Davis is putting up absurd numbers. Through just nine games, the wideout has 45 receptions for 586 yards and 8 touchdowns.

His production, like the rest of the offense, has ramped up considerably in the last few weeks. In just the last three games, Davis has 21 receptions for 286 yards and four touchdowns. In his last outing, against the vaunted Penn State Nittany Lions, Davis showed he comes clutch in big games, putting up astounding numbers: 12 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown to top it off. Keep an eye out for him in this video. He’s No. 18.

Possessing spider-like hands and a great sense for where the ball is coming from, Davis is a playmaker in every sense of the word. He’s a jack of all trades at the receiver position, and he has huge upside for the professional game. However, he hasn’t been talked about among the best at the position. Perhaps a reason for this is that Davis may go next year, or his wiry frame has some scouts pulling an ‘Antonio Brown’. Regardless, he’s a talented prospect who’s being overlooked.

Today, he’s incredibly deserving of the spotlight. In the Spartans’ matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes, Davis will likely see Denzel Ward in coverage. Ward, the understudy of impending Rookie of the Year Marshon Lattimore, carries many of the same traits that his predecessors have. He’s a stout cornerback, and what he lacks in size, at 5-foot-10, he compensates for it with excellent ball tracking ability and skills with his hands. He struggles with size repeatedly, however, and if Davis can dominate this matchup, then his spotlight will get a little bit bigger.

For now, though, Felton Davis is among the underrated. An underdog. Many at Redskins Park can relate. He’s currently on the uptrend, and he continues at this pace, he could work his way into the second or third round of the draft, assuming he leaves after his breakout junior season.

When his name comes up in the later rounds, whether it’s round two or round five, the Redskins would do well to box him up. He’s a player with a lot of upside, and as this season has shown, he can become the go-to guy when the team needs him most. He has his best games in the most important games, and he doesn’t miss a ball he can catch. He even catches some of the ones he shouldn’t catch. He’s a prospect the Redskins have to catch. Did you catch that? Good.
