2. How will Josh Doctson perform?

Josh Doctson, a 2016 first round pick, dealt with a mysterious Achilles injury that caused him to miss all but two games his rookie season. Doctson’s injury caused noted frustration within the organization, as it would with any top draft selection, especially when no clear diagnosis could be given.

Doctson not playing in 2016 wasn’t a huge problem for Washington, because starters Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson were available for most of the year. With the departures of the team’s top two wide-outs via free agency this offseason, Doctson’s availability and immediate impact is crucial to the success of Jay Gruden’s offense and development of quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Doctson has shown that he is in lock step with Cousins and up to speed with Gruden’s offense which isn’t common for a second year wideout that hasn’t had more than a training camps worth of reps.

Doctson is dealing with a small hamstring issue that currently isn’t alarming for the coaching staff who have him listed as day to day. However, prior to sustaining that injury, Doctson arguably was the brightest star down in Richmond at training camp, running clean routes and showing off his jumping ability to go up and get the ball over the defense.
