Maclin Would Have to Sign Cheap Deal

The one caveat to a potential deal bringing Maclin to Washington is that he would have to take a pay cut to join the team. In all likelihood, all the Redskins would have to offer him a one year deal and allow him to walk at the end of it. For an injury prone receiver, this would not be ideal.

At the same time, Maclin is unlikely to find any longer term deals across the league. With the brunt of free agency done and the NFL Draft long over, NFL teams have virtually filled up their salary cap space. Sure, some crafty teams out there still have space, but most are not playoff contenders. One could argue that the Redskins are not near the top of the list of contenders, but as long as they have Cousins, they will challenge for the postseason.

So for that reason, Maclin could opt to sign in Washington. It would behoove him to play with a high caliber quarterback in 2017 in hopes of padding his stats heading into what would likely be another free agent year in 2018.
