2017 NFL Draft: Grading The Washington Redskins Day Two Selections
Round 3, Pick 17: CB Fabian Moreau, UCLA
This pick has the makings of a potential steal. At one point, Fabian Moreau was considered to be a potential first round cornerback. He performed very well at the East-West Shrine game and was solid at the NFL Combine. However, at his Pro Day he tore his pectoral muscle, and there were some concerns that he may have to start the year on the PUP list.
Moreau still offered excellent value in the third round. He has a lot of experience, spending five years at UCLA before experiencing his best year as a senior. There is a chance that he could develop into a very strong No. 2 cornerback, and that will allow the Redskins to utilize Bashaud Breeland in different roles.
For those concerned about Moreau’s injury history, don’t be. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that things were clearing up for Moreau shortly after the pick:
Moreau is the type of upside player that teams so often search for in the middle rounds of the draft. If he pans out, the Redskins will have added a quality cornerback to strengthen their coverage. After Friday night, the Redskins defense is looking to be a lot stronger, and they should have a chance to greatly improve during the 2017 season.
