North Dakota State. Carson Wentz. 4. player. 123. The Cowboys need a quarterback of the future. Tony Romo is 36 and simply can’t stay healthy. The Cowboys have tried to fill the backup position behind Romo over the past few seasons but the experiments of Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel have not been successful.
The Cowboys could trade down and get a quarterback later in the first round but there’s no guarantee that a quarterback like Carson Wentz will be on the board to where they trade down. So they would need to take him at number four.

Sure Joey Bosa would be on the board but the Cowboys might not have another shot to get a legitimate franchise quarterback prospect any time soon. So taking Wentz gives them a quarterback of the future.
.
