Logan Paulsen, TE

Logan Paulsen split time with Paul on most run plays or they lined up together. Paulsen was the most effective run blocker for the Redskins among the TEs on the team. That was not a huge accomplishment as both Reed and Paul had poor seasons blocking.

Paulsen plays special teams and contributes in many ways to the team. As a TE, he really shouldn’t be more than a third option. He is limited both as a receiver and as a blocker. Paulsen has a cap hit of over $2.1 million and the Redskins could save $1.75 million of that if he is released.

Paulsen’s return to the team will depend on who they bring in to compete with him. McCloughan may choose to upgrade at the position with youth in the draft and a more effective but cheaper TE in free agency. His 13 catches for 78 yards was a very meager output and his worst yardage total since his rookie season of 2010.

Paulsen was his average self vs the Eagles with a 0.78 rating on pass plays and a 0.82 rating as a run blocker. He had a 0.75 rating on pass plays and a 0.90 rating on run plays in the loss to Dallas.
