But things haven’t gone as scripted, with Meriweather hurt and Jackson serving a suspension by the NFL for violating the sport’s substance abuse policy. The Redskins again are left patching together a lineup at safety to face the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons and their highly productive quarterback, Matt Ryan, Sunday at FedEx Field.

This season’s instability at safety has continued an unwelcome trend in recent years for the Redskins, who have been unable to find the right players to settle in as lineup fixtures at those two spots.

From Washington Post

Going into Sunday’s game, the Redskins offense is ranked No. 3 in the NFL, averaging 421.8 yards per game.

Even more impressive, is that they are managing to keep such high production without wide receiver Pierre Garçon for more than half of the first four games.

In his first game as a Redskin, Garçon had 109 receiving yards with a touchdown on a memorable pass from quarterback Robert Griffin III. He missed the next two games due to a right foot injury, and was reactivated in last week’s game where he recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

“It’s going to take some time to feel back like my old self; like it was in training camp,” Garçon said. “It’s a process, it’s a battle but it’s coming along.”

Griffin, the second overall pick of the 2012 draft, on Sunday completed 26 of 35 passes for 323 yards and rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown on seven carries against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Griffin directed a seven-play comeback drive that ended with Washington kicker Billy Cundiff making a 41-yard field goal to lift his team to victory with three seconds remaining on the clock.
It marks the second time this season that Griffin has earned rookie of the week honors, which are decided by a national fan vote on NFL.com. Griffin earned Week 1 honors after leading Washington to a 40-32 victory over the New Orleans Saints.
