Donovan has suggested modifications to Kyle’s offense based on intricacies Donovan has learned in his NFL career. For example, Donovan has asked all year that the team run more screen passes to help manage the pass rush more effectively. Ironically, Kyle decided to employ Donovan’s suggestions after he unceremoniously benched him on Sunday.

The Redskins, in an apparent move of due diligence, will look at Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen.

The former Notre Dame star is widely considered the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft. Although former Oklahoma star Sam Bradford is viewed as the top overall player, and he solidified his status as such at his pro day Monday, Bradford did not play in a pro-style offense as Clausen did with the Fighting Irish.

Jimmy Clausen is one of the two quarterbacks, Sam Bradford, that are the prized signal callers in this year’s draft. Clausen is known for his head start in being able to play in a pro-style offense. During his time in Notre Dame, his head coach Charlie Weis, implemented an “under center” base offense. Sam Bradford has a highly touted public pro day, where he was said to have looked great. Look for Clausen to have similar results, as these pro days are important, but tend to be over saturated.

Vinny Speaks Out

Vinny Cerrato, former Executive VP of Football Operations for the Redskins, has ties to Notre Dame, as he was once employed there. He has gone to bat for Notre Dame players, and even endorsed Jimmy Cluasen.

“I think Todd McShay started that, you know?” Cerrato said. “I’d like to know who Todd McShay talked to at Notre Dame about Jimmy. That’s what I would like to know, because I was at the school and talked to everybody. And there’s a lot of people there that were there when I was there, so they’ll tell me the truth. And, you know, the truth is he came in as the No. 1 player in the country. And he was [former coach Charlie Weis's] first recruit. So I think the older players kind of weren’t crazy about that part. He was a little immature when he first arrived. He matured each year, he was only there three, and he matured each year.

“Here’s what they told me: As a sophomore, he didn’t get many votes to be captain. As a junior, [he] received every vote of all the members of the team to be the captain. And everybody told me [he was] a totally different kid from sophomore year to junior year. Really grew up, matured, became the leader of the team [and] took charge of everything. … He’s a totally mature guy. I mean, you know what he is? He’s a gym rat. He’s a football junkie. He loves to talk about football. He loves to watch film. He’s very smart about football coverages, all those things. And you know what? He plays with a passion. That’s the thing.”

During his time here, Cerrato had been given a hard time by on lookers for his scouting ability, or lack thereof. Not sure whether his songs of praise for Clausen are looming endorsements or a kiss of death. Time will tell, and until he takes his first snap, we will have to wait and find out.

It looks like the Michael Vick rumors just won’t die. Earlier in the week it was speculated that Vick had strong interest from the 49ers and the Redskins. Well as we all know those rumors where quickly shot down as Vinny Cerrato insists there is no interest from the team.

We are now hearing that Vick to the Skins is building momentum per ESPN insider. Of course right now these are just rumors but will this madness ever stop? Listen, I know Vick has a ton of talent and is going to be a big asset to any team he ends up with but he just doesn’t belong in the burgundy and gold. I am all for giving guys a second chance to prove they have changed and I think over time Vick will show us that he has learned from his mistakes. The distraction alone could kill a team’s chemistry and moral. Not to mention we still don’t know how long he will be suspended for. It could be up to week 8, do we really want to take that big of risk for a guy who may miss half the season?

In the midst of all this sits Jason Campbell, a true professional. I admit I have had my doubts about Campbell and wanted him benched more than a couple times just like the rest of you. This guy has shown what type of character and class NFL players are supposed to have. From the Cutler situation to the Vick speculation Campbell has stayed strong. Not once have I heard hime speak out against the organization or the team. This is the type of quarterback I want to root for and who I want running my team. He may not have all the physical tools yet but he has proven to me that he is a lot tougher than I ever thought.
