Will Santana Moss and Brandon Banks be back for 2011-12?

Santana Moss has electrified Redskin fans for almost seven seasons, meanwhile Brandon Banks has been the speedy darling since his punt return for a touchdown in a preseason game vs. the Buffalo Bills. However, with the newfound depth at wide receiver, one of them (or both) may be out.

The smart Redskins fan says, keep Moss to help train and groom the young wide outs. After him, the most experienced receiver is Anthony Armstrong with a hair above 800 yards. The immediate response to Moss’s departure will be that there will be no veterans on the team that can help form the receiver core. That is not true as a veteran receiver will likely be sought to fill that void. However, if the price is right why not keep and pay who you have, granted the price is right. If Santana Moss is allowed to sign to another team, don’t be too shocked.

Santana Moss, former Redskin?

This week it was reported that Santana Moss’ contract will void this coming Friday, 5 days after Super Bowl XLV. I’m sure the many of us knew that Moss was expected to be an unrestricted free agent after the year, but most of us also expected that with receiver as such a glaring position of need we would not let Moss go easily into the night. Apparently those of us who though the later were sorely mistaken, as Jason La Canfora is reporting that the Redskins do not plan to offer a contract extension to Moss and are prepared to let him walk in free agency. WRs on the bubble

For players on the bubble tonight may be their last chance to make and impression. Tuesday four players were let go from the team in order to get from 80 players to 75, WR Malcolm Kelly was put on IR. Saturday afternoon will play host a much more substantial cut as the Redskins wil trim their roster by 22 to get to 53 players.

The question on whether the Redskins would keep two or three quarterbacks was answered yesterday in the form of John Beck getting an extension for two-years and $2.25 million. For all intents and purposes, he has found his way onto the regular season roster.
